I Made It Thursday: Cloth Diaper Covers

For the last several weeks, I haven’t sewn much of anything.  But I’ve been working on some major changes in my life, and the one major change I’ve made is freeing up quite a bit of time for me to actually sew (and clean, and spend time with my family, it’s amazing!).  I had an order for some diaper covers for a friend that I finally got sewn up. And the other project I’m working on I don’t know if I can blog about yet, so I’ll keep it under wraps for now!

I don’t think I’ve talked about cloth diapering much here, we TRY and be a cloth family most of the time  (lately that’s a major fail though, shhhh).  When I started making them for my kiddos, I kinda fell in to sewing them for others as well.  I’m a licensed seamstress for Trimsies, which are my favorites-although I definitely don’t claim to be any sort of an expert!

So anyway, since I have actually been sewing a bit, I thought I’d go ahead and participate in this weeks I Made It Thursday from Everything Etsy.

All of these covers are a cotton woven outer, with the inner layer being made of PUL-a fabric laminated with waterproof material.  I bind them in FOE (and we know how much I love FOE already right?), and then use snaps for the closures.  Funnily enough, the whole pile of ones I had cut out already (plus the couple more I cut out for my friend) contained all sizes so you see small, medium and large laid out here.  I didn’t really intend to use a bright red velvet background, but it certainly snaps things up a bit don’t you think?

As you can see, I hadn’t put the snaps on these yet, this was just a quickie pic.  I just love cloth diapers, you can’t beat this amount of cute on your kids booty!  So anyway, that’s what I made this week!

Tomorrow I’m going to start talking about the new blog series I’m starting up for all of us small craft business owners, so be sure to pop back in for that!

I Made It Thursday: Skirts and Dresses

I’m in full blown craft show prep mode over here, along with a quite sick little baby (who I think is finally on the mend, thank God!). The first show of the season is coming up on Saturday, if I have any local readers, I’ll be at the Donner Center Spring Craft Show from 9-3 in Columbus, Indiana. So anyway, I’ve hit that point where I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I NEVER feel like I have enough stuff, so I can get a little crazy. Add to that a sick baby and other life stresses and I’ve been quite the basketcase (albeit one adorned with some fabulous ribbon and fabric flowers of course!).

This week I’m participating in I Made it Thursday over at Everything Etsy (this is a great blog for those of you love handmade, and for those that sell it). So in honor of that, ya’ll get a sneaky peek into the new stuff I’ve got coming up for this show.  Above you’ve got a sneak peek of a monogrammed wallet keychain in progress.  These are really cool, they’re just big enough to hold a few credit cards and/or your ID and some cash, and they’re quilted which just looks awesome.  On the back side they have a snap shut pocket, and I’m using polyresin snaps (most commonly used on cloth diapers) so the closure is super secure…it will NOT just pop itself open and strew your life all over the place.

And this?  This is a skirt in progress (well it’s finished now, but the lighting at 8am will make my already bad pictures even worse lol).  I just love making skirts, and these fabrics I really love.  They’re from the Farmer’s Market collection by Sandi Henderson.  I’m pretty sure it’s discontinued now, but you can find it on Etsy and Ebay.

This dress is one of my stripwork Miss  Madeline’s.  I used Lila Tueller’s Soiree fabric for this one.  These dresses are so time intensive, but I so love the result!  And you can see my little “helper” there too..he never wants his picture taken unless I’m trying to take shop pictures.

So that’s what I’ve been making, how about you, what have YOU been making this week?  Go and check out Everything Etsy, you won’t regret it!
