County Fair-What I entered

I had a few comments yesterday wanting to see the actual items I entered into the fair, so here we go (lots of pics!).

First, the cloth diaper I won First Premium/Reserve Grand Champion for in the “Recycled Items-Fabric” category. This is a cloth diaper I made out of a couple of Bobby’s old tshirts and an old receiving blanket.  Yes, we’re big Nascar fans here, why do you ask?

Dale Jr DiaperNext up, this is the outfit I got a second premium for in the Machine Embroidery category.  This is a favorite outfit of mine, I love the pink and green together.  It is listed in the shop as well if you’re interested in it!

patty young skirt setI entered one of my reusable grocery bags in the purses/totes category, but didn’t win any ribbons on this one at all.  Which is ok, because *I* love it!

Bug ToteNow, the rest of these were all in the Children’s Clothing category and I have no idea which were the ribbon winners and which weren’t.

First, Christmas themed wrap around dress (you can find it here too):

Christmas Wrap DressSecond, Froggy themed Curved Raglan Tee (found here too):

Froggy TshirtAnd this stripwork dress, no one believed I sewed all the strips together myself.  Can’t decide whether that’s a good or bad thing?

Stripwork dressI think that’s it!  Thanks so much everyone for being so supportive!  I’d love to see if you made things for your county fair too, so post in the comments!

County Fair Sewing

One of my goals this year was to actually take the “plunge” and enter a few things into the county fair.  So I actually did it!  I entered I think 10 different things, I totally forgot to take my camera with me on the night we went to the fair to take pics of the displays to show ya’ll!  So instead I’ll show you my “brag board”, this is a corkboard in my sewing room that I’m going to put things like this on to look at when I’m feeling not good enough.

Fair ribbons

At first I was really disappointed, out of the 10 things, the only ribbons I had received was the Reserve Grand Champion/First Premium on one of my cloth diapers (SO awesome!!), and a 2nd premium on a top and skirt outfit.  Then I had to reign myself in and say “Hey, it’s better than nothing, stop being prideful!”.

Well, at the end of the week, I went in to pick up my items and my wins.  The envelope they gave me had 3 more ribbon wins written on it!  I asked the volunteer and she said they must have just not gotten the ribbons pinned on the items and made arrangements to go in to the extension office later in the week to pick up the rest of the ribbons.  I don’t know which other items got ribbons, but I felt quite a bit better to know my stuff didn’t suck as bad as I thought it did! LOL!  So I took my winnings (a whopping $7.50!), and got treats for the family.  I didn’t really care about the money, though it’s nice, I wanted the ribbons!  It’s like I told Bobby-as a mom, you don’t really get alot of recognition for everything you do.  This was a nice little pat on the back.

I’ll definitely be doing it again next year, even if just for the experience of going in and chatting with all the awesome volunteers who run the open class exhibits!  So nice to talk sewing with other enthusiasts!  Have you ever entered anything in your county fair?  I’d love to see what!co
